I was diagnosed at my very first mammogram when I was 40. With no history of breast cancer in m family I was shocked. My cancer was not a lump, it was smaller than a grain of salt and could not be detected by exams, only by the mammo. I’m so fortunate that it was caught early. Early detection really is key to treatment options. With small grains of cancer from chest wall to nipple my form of treatment was a mastectomy. My husband and I interviewed surgeons and oncologists and I had surgery within 3 weeks of my diagnosis. The medical team at Rose was special, they were informative, kind, caring and supportive. I began reconstruction immediately and the process took about 10 months.
Be informed. There are so many types of breast cancer and there are many treatment options. Don’t be afraid t ask lots of questions and interview Dr’s until yup find the right medical team for you.
